Eliminating Bogus Spelling Errors on Internet Addresses

Summary: Tired of Word 2007 marking Internet addresses as spelling errors? You can turn off this check by applying the steps in this tip.

If you have a large number of Internet addresses in your document, and those addresses always slow you down when doing a spell check, you can instruct Word to ignore them. This means that any URLs or e-mail addresses will be ignored by the spell check utility. Follow these steps to make sure your Internet addresses are being ignored:

  1. Click the Office button and then click Word Options. Word displays the Word Options dialog box.
  2. Click Proofing at the left side of the dialog box. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  3. Make sure the Ignore Internet and File Addresses check box is selected.
  4. Click on OK.
