Creating Endnotes

Summary: Endnotes are often used in scholarly or legal documents, and they can be added easily. This tip shows how to add them quickly.

Endnotes are printed references placed at the end of a section or the document. If you want to insert an endnote in your document, follow these steps:

  1. Position the insertion point where you want the endnote mark to be located.
  2. Display the References tab of the Ribbon and click Insert Endnote. (The tool is in the Footnotes group.)
  3. An endnote mark appears in your document and the insertion point moves to the page where the endnotes will appear.
  4. Enter your endnote text, formatting it as you would any other text in your document.
  5. When you are done entering your endnote, click somewhere within the main body of your document.
